Amit Bhar

Amit Bhar was born in Chinsurah, Hooghly, West Bengal, in 1973. The rural Bengal of his childhood, the river Hooghly, the village life along its banks, gave him his first subjects, and his school notebooks were full of sketches. He combines forms from older Indian art with a semi-realistic technique of texturing and a play of light and shade. His Benaras series reads almost like photographic collage, catching the sadhus and the devotees at the ghats. In his own words: "I lose myself in every painting I create, in the hope that it would spark the same feeling in the viewer."
