Sachin Sagare

Sachin Sagare was born in Pandharpur and paints the women he grew up among. They pick cotton or plant paddy, carry lunch to the men in the fields, cook, look after their children and then their elders, and at the end of the day are expected to look their best at the market, the fair or the temple. He paints them smiling. The work mixes realism and abstraction, with strong colour and worked texture, and its subject throughout is ordinary people and the relationships between them.
