Samir Mohanty

Samir Mohanty was born on 13 February 1989 and grew up in a village where the landscape mattered. He took a bachelor's degree at B. K. College of Art and Crafts, Utkal University of Culture, and a master's in painting at the S. N. School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad. He works mostly in watercolour, for its speed and its closeness to nature, and his paintings return to the landscapes of his childhood. He is interested in keeping traditional and indigenous elements in view in contemporary work. He has shown widely, including Earth Song at Gallery Art Positive, and has worked with students at Woodstock School for the Art for Change Foundation. He holds a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the 8th Eastern Zone Camlin Award.
