Shampa Sircar Das works in acrylic on canvas, and colour is her real subject: yellows and reds against blues and whites, set to calm and to lift at once. The recurring motifs are meditating heads with closed eyes, lotuses, tapering hands, Chinese clouds, fish, and script and signs of Buddhist origin. The heads that float in her dense colour fields belong to both women and men.
