Sukanta Das

Sukanta Das was born in 1973 in West Bengal and took a bachelor's degree in visual arts at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in 1996. He works in mixed media on canvas. His figures wear clothes and carry patterns taken from Mughal miniatures, against grounds of calligraphy, so that the portraits read like miniatures turned inside out. He leaves interpretation to the viewer and gives his attention to detail: eyes, mouth, eyelashes. He received an honourable mention from the Avantika Art Society in 2003.
