Vinita Karim

Vinita Karim was born in 1962 in Rangoon, now Yangon, and is of Indian descent and Swedish nationality. She took a diploma in fine arts at the Gerlesborg Art Institute, Stockholm, a BSc in economics and business administration at the University of Stockholm, and an MFA at the University of the Philippines. Her paintings, sculptures and installations carry the places she has lived: the forts of Malta, the Sahara, Dhaka, the Mediterranean. She works in oil and acrylic with gold leaf and prints from kalamkari wooden blocks, mostly in abstraction, and has held more than twenty solo shows. She lives between Dhaka and Delhi.
