Vivek Kumavat

Vivek Kumavat was born in 1977 in a small town, graduated in fine arts from the Sir J. J. School of Art, and lives in Mumbai. His subject is the Indian bull: Nandi, the vehicle of Shiva, a guardian and a sign of truth. The bodies in his paintings are all strength; the faces are gentle. "A bull is warm, gentle, passionate and friendly, until it is provoked," he says, "quite similar to human attitude in society." Each painting differs in the small figures and stories worked into the bull's body, in colours taken from older Indian painting.
